Winter Pruning Course

PRUNING TIME FOR APPLE TREES

Now is the time to winter prune your apple trees to ensure that you encourage the correct shape and growth for the future expected bumper crops. But, do you just go in with a chain saw and cut back everything - does every tree get the same treatment?  Are tip-bearing trees treated the same as the rest – are old trees pruned as if they were only five years old?

All of these questions will be answered if you attend the next Apple Winter Pruning Course, between 10am and 3pm, on Saturday 28th November at an orchard in the Tavy Valley.  This annual course, organised by the Tavy & Tamar Apple Group, will again have professional tutor Charles Staniland imparting over 30 years knowledge and experience as participants learn in a “Hands-on Course” how to tackle trees, whether semi-mature or the needs of formative pruning for young trees.

Outdoor warm clothing, strong boots and gloves should be worn and attendees should bring a packed lunch; any pruning tools, secateurs, saws, etc should be brought.   No climbing is required but there will be walking over rough ground.

The cost is £15.00 for members or £20.00 non-members.
