APPLE SUMMER PRUNING DAY – DEVON
Saturday 17th July 2010. 10am – 2pm
Learn to summer prune and ascertain the different objectives and techniques between this and winter pruning. A hands-on course with tutor Charles Staniland. This mainly practical morning will give you the confidence to tackle your trees and will cover the pruning to control growth and increase fruiting.
Outdoor clothing, strong boots, gloves and a packed lunch will be necessary. Bring any useful, pruning tools, secateurs, saws, etc. No climbing required.

An opportunity to learn how to turn apples and other fruit into juice, by operating the electric crushing and pressing machinery and also the pasteurisation equipment.
If you bring along some apples and empty fruit juice containers you can “Juice and Carry”! The training is part of the requirements to be able to hire the machinery.
Places are limited and mature children must be accompanied.
A great day out with good company – bring items for a barbecue (weather permitting).

The Tavy & Tamar Apple Group will supply a service of producing apple juice from apples provided by members of the public. They must provide their own clean, plastic fruit juice or glass containers for the precious liquid! The apples must be from ‘Clean’ orchards, that is, ones that have not been grazed by cattle or sheep within the last three months. A nominal charge will be made for the processing.
No booking required, just arrive with clean apples and juice container.
