About Us

Devon is well known for its many apple orchards - and its cider, so it is fair to say that apples and orchards are an important part of local culture.

The Tavy & Tamar Apple Group is a non-profit group of local people passionate about apple trees, juice and other kindred liquids! TTAG encourage the rejuvenation of local orchards through best practice and sustainable management, but their dream is to see local apples sold across the board in South West supermarkets. Bringing back local apples as a viable business will decrease transport miles and enable the community to access the fresh quality juice that is their natural heritage.

The Tavy & Tamar Apple Group is based on the Bere Peninsula in West Devon and is focused on the preservation, development and creation of small and large orchards on the Peninsula. The Bere Peninsula was a prolific area for fruit production in the last century. We have connections with many of the apple growers in the area and over the border in Cornwall, including the team at Cotehele, an historic National Trust property near Calstock.

Our Objectives
  1. To work and liaise with the Tamar Valley AONB, Cotehele, The Tamar Valley Orchard volunteers, Orchard link, Buckland Monachorum Community Orchard, The National Trust and similar groups and local food production initiatives.
  2. To support an annual forum for those interested in traditional Apple and pear orchards and to advise people on planting and rejuvenation of orchards.
  3. To organise the Bere Apple Fest, Wassailing and other community events.
  4. To organise and support training and educational events, including visits and other activities to benefit local people and to work towards economic benefits.
  5. To own and maintain juice processing and other equipment for use and hire by members subject to training and experience in safely operating the equipment.
  6. To link with sustainable transport initiatives (Tamar Valley line, car sharing, Etc) as a key component of community events.
